On Saturday May 2nd, 2025, join folks across Ontario who will wear purple to show support for survivors of sexual violence. The campaign is called #NoOneAsksForIt!

Learn more...

One of the biggest hurdles people face after a sexual assault is the notion that somehow, they “asked for it” by what they were wearing, where they were, what they were doing or drinking. This is victim-blaming.

For over a decade, SASC has invited folks everywhere to challenge victim-blaming with the campaign #NoOneAsksForIt.

Over the years, our campaign has evolved to build general awareness of sexual violence and show support to survivors. Will you join us this year and wear purple on May 2nd? We need your help to speak out against sexual violence!

The fact is, no one asks to be sexually assaulted, but we all have a responsibility to prevent harm. Sexual violence is an urgent issue that impacts communities at their core.

According to Stats Canada, one in three women will experience sexual violence in their lifetime. Furthermore, sexual assault is the only violent crime in Canada not on a decline.

Additional Facts

  • Women are 5 times more likely than men to be victimized
  • Nearly half of all sexual assaults are committed against young women ages 15-24
  • The rate of sexual assault is two times higher for persons with disabilities, compared to those without disabilities
  • The rate of sexual assault against Indigenous women is three times higher than among non-Indigenous women
  • 2S-LGBTQIA+ peoples are three times more likely than straight folks to experience sexual violence
  • Arab, Black, and Latin women experience higher rates of intimate partner violence

Systems of oppression such as sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and more have made the above groups especially vulnerable to sexual assault. We must end all forms of oppression in order to end sexual violence.

Did you know?

In many provinces in our nation, May is Sexual Violence Prevention Month! Wearing purple on May 2nd is one of many ways you can show support! You can also:
  • Join Advocates, SASC's Monthly Giving Program
  • Attend a public education event
  • Volunteer with SASC
