Our Educators

Educating for social change
Our facilitators are experts in violence prevention education! Click on the bios below to learn the wide range of skills, education and experience our team can bring to your class, group or organization.
Karley Doucette, Public Education Manager
Karley Doucette (she/they) is the Public Education Manager at the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region. She has a diverse educational background including degrees in journalism, education, and social justice. ​Karley has been an educator for over a decade working with students in the public school system as well as higher ed.  Her teaching practice is grounded in evidence-based prevention and intervention models, using frameworks of social justice, academic literacies, ​trauma-informed practice, and growth mindset.

She has extensive experience researching, designing, and evaluating curriculum as well as with facilitation and program delivery. Karley is committed to ensuring that education programming is accessible, inclusive, engaging, and impactful.

​​In 2020, Karley was awarded the Donald F. Morgenson Award for Teaching Excellence by Wilfrid Laurier University. This award recognized the innovative and enriching learning environments she fostered as the coordinator of Learning Skills & Development at Laurier Brantford. It celebrated the collaborative academic programming she designed and developed for Indigenous students and students on academic probation.


Karley is an intersectional feminist who has been involved in community activism and organizing from a young age. She enjoys travelling, reading, quilting, drinking coffee, watching Twin Peaks, and longing for pumpkin season.

As the Public Education Manager, Karley provides leadership to the public education team. She oversees all public education programming, supports the team of educators, and works with community partners to provide sexual violence prevention education in the community.
Sarah, Violence Prevention Educator
​Sarah (she/her) is the Violence Prevention Educator at the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region. Sarah is a survivor, activist, speaker, and facilitator of learning. In her work, Sarah uses her knowledge and lived experience to engage community in conversations about gender-based violence using an intersectional feminist and anti-oppressive lens. Since starting sexual violence prevention work in 2015, Sarah has hosted workshops, trainings, and events for thousands of individuals. She specializes in education with youth and training in trauma-informed survivor support.

​Sarah has a master's degree in Social Justice and Community Engagement from Wilfrid Laurier University, as well as a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies from the University of Waterloo. She also received extensive education through grassroots organizing in the feminist and student movements.

In 2017, Sarah received the Provincial Draw the Line Post-Secondary Sexual Violence Prevention Award, and in 2018 she received the University of Waterloo Equity and Inclusivity Award, all for her work to address campus sexual violence. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys pole dancing, painting, and spending time with her cat.
Mitchell, Workplace Equity Educator
Mitchell (they/them) graduated with distinction in honours Psychology from the University of Waterloo and has spent over 1200 hours facilitating groups and individual psychoeducation. They are equipped to navigate challenging discussions and to help others do the same to build a stronger connection with the communities they inhabit. Mitchell loves learning about other people’s stories, dreams, and feelings with the time spent together. In their spare time, Mitchell spends a lot of time reading, listening to music, and caring for pets.

Jacob, Male Allies Program Facilitator
Jacob (he/they) is a Male Allies Program Facilitator at the Sexual Assault Centre of Waterloo Region. Jacob is passionate about helping male-identified folks learn more about the role they have in preventing sexual and gender-based violence. He has worked in communications, fundraising, and education in the non-profit sector for more than 15 years and studied Political Science and Global Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University.  ​

Rod, Project Developer, Male Allies
Rod is an Educator and Male Allies Project Developer at the Sexual Assault Support Centre of the Waterloo Region. Rod is an enthusiast of the Social Sciences and Humanities.

His biographical experience has given him the opportunity to become aware of the consequences of violence on people and communities. In response to this, Rod has worked in the promotion of Human Rights, Gender Equality and violence prevention. 

He believes that these goals require, self-awareness, understood not solely as an individualistic endeavor, but an achievement born out of dialogue with a wide range of others, that requires listening, being reflexive with one’s experiences and positions, being open to learning & change, as well as finding ways to apply on a personal and collective level practices that lessen individual and group suffering.

 has a PhD in Social Sciences.

Landon, Male Allies Educator
​Landon (he/him) is the Male Allies Educator at the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region. He is an educator, activist, and proponent of community care and support. Landon uses his feminist pedagogical experience and lifelong passion for social justice to help facilitate discussions and understanding about allyship with community members. 

Landon has a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education degree from Nipissing University. While he was a student there, he was heavily involved in student organizations that promoted allyship and healthy masculinity and began his work in sexual violence education as a summer student for Nipissing University's Sexual Violence Prevention and Education office. Outside of work, Landon enjoys trivia podcasts, table top role playing games, and spending time with his daughter.
