Exploring Sexual Assault Prevention Month Through The Arts |
Survivor Donation Form

Art Heals, Uplifts and Inspires!

This May (Sexual Assault Prevention Month), join our Centre as we explore art's transformative power through an exciting new initiative called Heartwork.

Throughout the month, we are focusing on sexual violence prevention and healing through the lens of art and creativity. We will be offering a variety of free, virtual events, including an art auction, arts-based public education, and art therapy for survivors of sexual violence.
Donate to our Auction!

We are searching for pieces that uplift and help to capture our vision of a world without sexual violence and oppression. All donations will be auctioned off in May, with proceeds going towards wrap-around support services for survivors of sexual violence.

Proceeds can also support our local arts community! We are offering a profit-sharing option for artists and makers who donate their own work. You can receive 50 per cent of the net proceeds (net proceeds equate to winning bid amount, minus 10 per cent Givergy auction fee) from the sale of your art! It's a win-win.

We invite donors to submit gifts of artwork, handmade items and/or arts-based gift certificates or gift baskets by April 23, 2021. Please consider a gift valued at $100 or more to help us ensure our auction raises the funds needed to support our many services.

Auction Preview Begins: Wednesday May 5, 2021 | 12:00 p.m.
Auction Bidding Opens: Wednesday May 12, 2021 | 12:00 p.m.

    Auction Donation Form

Please note, due to the sensitive nature of our work, we may occasionally have to decline a donation if it contains content that could be triggering to the survivors we support.
Please include details about your donation (i.e. painting, pottery, jewelry, gift basket, etc.)
What is the monetary value of this item?
    Profit Sharing Option (Please read):
We value artists! That's why we are offering a profit sharing option for donations that are directly made from artists and makers. If you are donating a piece of art that you have created, you are eligible to receive 50 per cent of the net proceeds from the sale of your art. Net proceeds equate to the winning bid amount, minus a 10 per cent Givergy auction fee.

Example: Lucy donates a $1000 painting she has created. She sets the minimum bid at $400. The winning bid is $600. Lucy has chosen to participate in the profit sharing program, and receive half of the net proceeds from the sale of her art. The net proceeds equate to $570 ($600 minus a 10 per cent sales fee from Givergy, the auction platform). Therefore, both SASC and Lucy receive $285 ($570/2).

F.A.Q.
Will I receive a tax receipt?

Tax receipting rules for donations of art are very intricate and must be handled on a case-by-case basis. In general, we are not automatically issuing tax receipts for donations to this auction, unless specific requests are made. If you require a tax receipt or have questions, contact our Finance and Operations Manager at finance@sascwr.org.

Do other sponsorship opportunities exist aside from the donation of art?
We are searching for cash sponsorships for this event. Sponsorships help us cover the cost of our auction platform, marketing and promotions, so that funds raised through the program can go directly to our services (and to local artists if they participate in our profit sharing option). Please email donations@sascwr.org for more information.

You can also donate directly to this campaign in May. Follow us on social media (@sascwr) or sign up for our newsletter for updates.

I'm an art collector/enthusiast. May I donate my owned pieces of art to this campaign?
Yes! Thank you for your support. Please fill out the donation form by clicking here.
About SASC
We know that sexual violence is a crime and human rights violation. For over 30 years, our Centre has played a pivotal role in our community’s responsibility to both provide support to people who have been sexually assaulted and to work toward ending sexual violence.

Our History
In 1989, local women (many of them survivors) began to strategize when Waterloo Region became the largest region in Ontario without critical sexual assault support services. The women were determined to build a strong grassroots centre that could truly respond to the community need.

In October of that same year, with an anonymous $1000 gift, and donated airtime from an answering service, they launched our 24-Hour Support Line. Our Centre's founding was due to the efforts of 25 volunteers, 10 of whom worked endless shifts during those first months.

Our Work Today
SASC has now grown to include 23 staff members and 80 volunteers. We offer free, wrap-around services and support to people and their families who have experienced sexual violence. We provide individual and group counselling, a 24-Hour Support Line and Online Chat, and advocacy and accompaniments for those navigating court, police, and medical processes. We have a dedicated Family Court Support and Anti-Human Trafficking Program. In addition to our support services, we're committed to preventing sexual violence through education and social justice work.

Why We Need Your Help
Today, our work faces an unprecedented challenge. Due to the #MeToo movement, and faced with the additional challenge of a global pandemic, our waitlist has reached an all-time high. Five years ago, 40 survivors on our waitlist would have been a crisis; we now have 160. And the need is only growing.

We know that in times of natural disasters, such as pandemics, cases of sexual violence only increase. We also know that survivors face increased challenges. Anything from isolation, to safety concerns, can threaten to disrupt the healing journey.

The increased need for support, initially brought upon by a cultural shift due to the #MeToo movement, is now compounded with a public health crisis. Requests for help from our Centre continue to come in record numbers. Our most recent statistics show that we’ve seen a 24 per cent increase in requests for individual counselling from survivors of sexual violence.

Nevertheless, we persist because we fiercely believe in our vision of a world without sexual violence and oppression. We call upon our community to stand in solidarity with our Centre's vision. Join us as a an auction donor, and help make a difference.
