Support for Male Survivors

Reaching out for support takes courage. For many men, experiences of sexual harm are surrounded by stigma, silence, or pressure to cope alone. This page is here to offer accessible, trusted resources that recognize those realities and honour your strength. Whether you are seeking information, connection, support for the first time, or returning at a different point in your journey, these services are designed to center choice, respect, and dignity.

You deserve to be believed, supported, and met where you are. You are not alone.

At SASC, male survivors can access free counselling, human trafficking services, and legal advocacy support for help with understanding your legal options, reporting to police and court support.

​Community Justice Initiatives (CJI) works to support survivors of sexual harm through a restorative justice framework. We work with adults of all genders both in person and remotely. 

Through support groups and dialogue services, CJI seeks to centre survivor's healing and justice needs which are unique to each individual we work with.

What you can find: 
  • Support Groups for survivors, including survivors of Sexual Misconduct (male and gender non-conforming folks welcome) 
  • Support Groups for partners of people who have caused sexual harm (all genders welcome) 
  • Webinars to learn about restorative justice processes for survivors of sexual harm 
  • Restorative dialogues that center safety, dignity, consent and choice. These conversation can be between any two adults impacted by sexual harm (victim/offender, victim/family member, offender/family member).  
  • Training opportunities to facilitate groups or dialogues.

CJI emphasizes choice, empowerment, and survivor-centered care in all of its restorative justice programs.

1in6 is a non-profit organization that supports men who have experienced sexual abuse or assault in childhood or adulthood. It offers free, confidential resources and support for survivors, as well as information to help loved ones and professionals understand male-specific experiences of harm. 

What you can find: 
  • Online support groups and chat with trained advocates available every weeknight 
  • Educational articles and videos about healing and recovery 
  • Personal stories from male survivors 
  • Resources for partners, family, and helpers 

Support is trauma-informed, affirming, and available regardless of when the harm occurred.

MaleSurvivor is a non-profit organization that offers a judgment-free community and support network for men who have experienced sexual abuse or assault. For more than 25 years, people from around the world have come together through MaleSurvivor to find support, connection, and hope as they work toward healing. While primarily US based, they offer comprehensive resources for any and all survivors.  

What you can find: 
  • Peer-moderated online forums and 24/7 chat where men can connect, share, and listen in a safe environment  
  • Directories for support groups and therapists experienced with male survivors  
  • Webinars, events, and educational resources about healing and recovery  
  • Resources for loved ones and partners who want to understand and support a survivor  

MaleSurvivor respects the diversity of survivors and emphasises that healing is possible with connection, understanding, and support.

The Joyful Heart Foundation is a US-based non-profit organization focused on supporting survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, and abuse, and on transforming how communities respond to harm. While Joyful Heart does not provide direct support services in Canada, it offers trauma-informed education, advocacy, and survivor-centered resources that are accessible online. 

What you can find: 
  • Educational articles and toolkits about healing from trauma 
  • Advocacy and awareness campaigns that challenge stigma and silence 
  • Webinars, stories, and resources centered on survivor voices 

Joyful Heart’s materials can be helpful for survivors, loved ones, and helpers looking to better understand trauma and recovery.

Abuse Hurts (also known as the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness) is a national non-profit organization based in Ontario that works to reduce the impact of abuse and support survivors through education, awareness, and community resources. Founded by a survivor, Abuse Hurts partners with agencies across Canada to strengthen supports and provide information that helps people understand abuse and begin healing.  

What you can find: 
  • Curated resource lists with books and information for adults, teens, children, and caregivers affected by abuse  
  • Educational tools and awareness programs about abuse, trauma, and recovery  
  • Referrals and connections to other trusted agencies and supports  

While Abuse Hurts does not provide direct counselling services, its materials and resource lists are designed to help survivors and their loved ones learn about trauma, find healing tools, and access supports in their communities.

211 Ontario is a free, confidential, province-wide helpline and online service that helps people in Ontario find community, health, and social services, including supports related to sexual harm. Real people answer calls, texts, and chats 24/7 in over 150 languages, and can help you understand what services are available where you live and how to connect with them.  

What you can find: 
  • Information and referrals to local counselling, crisis lines, and community services across Ontario 
  • Multilingual support by phone, text, or live chat 
  • Personalized guidance from trained navigators to help you find supports that fit your needs

211 does not provide counselling or crisis intervention itself, but it can help you connect to trauma-informed services in your area.

Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice is a global non-profit organization that works to promote gender equality and prevent violence by engaging men and boys in partnership with people of all gender identities. Their work is grounded in research, advocacy, and community education that explores healthy masculinity, the impact of gender norms, and the realities of sexual violence against boys and men.  

What you can find: 
  • Reports and research on sexual violence and healthy masculinities, including work on sexual violence against boys and evidence-informed strategies for prevention.  
  • Educational resources on engaging boys and young men in gender equality and violence prevention.  
  • Information on healthy relationships, gender norms, and social change that supports a broader understanding of how trauma and violence affect boys and men.  

Equimundo does not offer direct counselling or crisis support, but its research and educational materials can help survivors, loved ones, and helpers understand broader patterns of harm, stigma, and pathways to support.

Get 24/7 multilingual crisis and referral services for male survivors of sexual abuse, both recent and historical. Supports include counselling, peer support, and referrals to community support services to meet long-term needs. ​
