In 2020, Karley was awarded the Donald F. Morgenson Award for Teaching Excellence by Wilfrid Laurier University. This award recognized the innovative and enriching learning environments she fostered as the coordinator of Learning Skills & Development at Laurier Brantford. It celebrated the collaborative academic programming she designed and developed for Indigenous students and students on academic probation.

Qudsia, Public Education Coordinator
Qudsia (she/her) is the Public Education Coordinator at the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region. She has a Master of Peace and Conflict Studies degree, with a focus on trauma, healing, and prevention against gender-based violence. Qudsia is passionate about transforming systems that cause harm to marginalized groups and spreading education and awareness among the community about the risks and harms of rape culture, childhood sexual violence, and gender-based violence.

Qudsia has experience developing workshops and educational tools in post-secondary settings, and internationally during her time completing a fellowship in Tanzania. Her graduate level research focused on understanding intergenerational trauma and creating healing spaces for South Asian women who have experienced any form of sexual violence or gender-based violence.

Anna, Workplace Equity Educator
Anna (she/her) is the Workplace Equity Educator at the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region. She works in collaboration with the Accelerator Centre bringing to life a project focused on supporting women and gender diverse STEM entrepreneurs create companies that have gender equity built in from the ground up.

Anna sees social activism as the most consistent aspect of her life for as long as she can remember. As a youth, she was politically activated by witnessing houselessness in her communities and learning of child labor and trafficking used for chocolate.
Today, Anna holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph where she obtained a double

major in Criminal Justice and Public Policy, and International Development with a focus on Gender. Anna often thinks of the words of Lilla Watson as a guiding principle of her activism, “If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”

Anna feels that all social justice work must be done on the foundational understanding that all oppression is connected, and all systems of power uphold one another. With this in mind, she believes  that the economic liberation of women and gender diverse folks that she will work towards in this role is inextricably linked to the liberation of people suffering from gender based violence as much as it is linked to the liberation of incarcerated peoples, the liberation of the land and colonized communities, the liberation of the working class, the liberation of racialized communities, and all those who have suffered in the name of power and control.
