FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In the spring of 2011, the Ministry of the Attorney General announced project funding for service provision to male survivors of sexual abuse. We're pleased that SASC, in partnership with Community Justice Initiatives, was successful in our application for this funding in Waterloo Region. Currently, this new provincial funding is available until March 31, 2013.
This fall, SASC received word that we could begin rolling out our individual counselling program for male survivors. We can now provide up to 16 individual counselling sessions for males, over the age of 16, who have experienced sexual abuse at any point during their lives. We’re able to accommodate men’s requests for a female counsellor or a male counsellor and can provide support in both Kitchener and Cambridge.
Call the SASC office at 519.571.0121 and speak to Sara Jane Friesen at extension 26 if you’d like to access our free, confidential counselling services for men, or if you’d like more information about the intake process.
Peer Support Groups for male survivors will continue to be offered through our partner agency, Community Justice Initiatives. Please call them directly with inquiries in regards to group support at 519-744-6549.
For additional information on services available to men, visit the services portion of our website. Please help share the word in the community about this new program!
Any media inquires can be directed to Sara Casselman, Public Relations & Operations Manager, at 519-571-0121, extension 23.
